Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

What is DBT?
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a cognitive-behavioral treatment created by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. to treat symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder. DBT is used to treat several mental health disorders including Anxiety, Depression, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Four Modules of DBT

Mindfulness
Heightening our awareness to the present moment, so we can be grounded to our life, values, and goals.

Emotion Regulation
Increasing our emotional awareness so we can learn how to deal with difficult or negative emotions, and decrease the intensity of those emotions.

Distress Tolerance
Noting the areas that are triggers or that cause distress, so we can learn to tolerate distress, and act in an effective way.

Interpersonal Effectiveness
Learning how to be effective in relationships with others and ourselves.
