Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
What is DBT?
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a cognitive behavioral treatment that was created by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. to treat symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder. DBT is used to treat several mental health disorders including Anxiety, Depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Four Modules of DBT
Heightening our awareness to the present moment to help be more grounded to our life, values, and goals.
Increasing our emotional awareness in order to learn how to deal with difficult emotions, and decrease the intensity of those emotions.
Noting the areas that are triggers or might cause distress, and how can we tolerate that distress, and act in an effective way.
Learning to be effective in relationships not only with others but also ourselves.
